CNA Certification In New Hampshire

Like all other U.S. states, NH also has specific requirements that the aspirants are supposed to fulfill for obtaining CNA certification in New Hampshire. These prerequisites include the completion of the nurse aide program program approved by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing, qualifying the licensing exam with the required scores, and getting your name listed on the NH Nurse Aide Registry. Some additional requirements include undergoing a complete physical test and passing a criminal background check.

Requirements for Obtaining CNA License in the State of NH

  • Licensure by Competency Evaluation
    • Complete a certified nursing assistant program approved by the Board within a period of 5 years; and
    • Complete the clinical and written competency testing within the past 2 years.
  • Licensure by Endorsement
    • Possess an active CNA license in another state.
    • Practice 200 hours as a CNA within the last 2 years under the supervision of an RN, APRN, or LPN, and 12 continuing education hours every year (i.e. 24 hours within 2 years), or
    • Complete the clinical and written competency testing within 2 years.
  • Licensure by Comparable Education
    • If you are an LPN / RN student who has completed the “Fundamentals of Nursing” within the last five years, you need to submit an official transcript or a letter from the school; or
    • Complete a Challenge Program and pass the clinical and written competency testing within 2 years.

Renewal / Reinstatement of CNA License

All certified nursing assistants in New Hampshire need to renew their license biennially, i.e., after every 2 years.

Requirements to Renew Nursing Assistant Certificate in NH

If you hold a current, active license, you are required to meet the below requirements:

  • Practiced 200 hours as a CNA within the renewal period of 2 years under the supervision of an RN, APRN, or LPN and 12 continuing education hours every year, making it a total of 24 hours within 2 years; or
  • Complete the clinical and written competency testing within 2 years.
