CNA Certification In District of Columbia

Eligibility Criteria to Acquire CNA License in DC

Applicants must meet any one of the following requisites to obtain CNA license by examination or endorsement in the state of District of Columbia:

  • Completed a program program approved by the DC Department of Health within the past 2 years. You should not be listed on any other state’s nursing aide registry. You are required to provide a copy of your program certificate.
  • Successfully completed “Fundamentals of Nursing” course or an equivalent practical nursing with a clinical component in the United States within a period of past 3 years. You are required to provide a copy of your official school transcript and enter 99994 in Section 4 of the form.
  • Currently hold an LPN or RN license in DC issued within the last 3 years. You are required to provide a copy of your RN or LPN license and enter 99990 in Section 4 of the form.
  • Trained as an LPN or RN outside the US in the past 3 years. You are required to provide a copy of your foreign credentials certification and enter 99910 in Section 4 of the form.
  • If you are applying through “reciprocity by examination”, attach a photocopy of your out-of-state registration license and enter 99998 in Section 2 of the form.
  • If you are appearing for the NNAAP® Examination for re-application to add your name in the registry after your license has lapsed (and the expiry period of your certificate is less than 2 years), you are required to provide a copy of your expired Registry Certificate and enter 99995 in Section 4 of the form. Also, enter your Registry Certificate number on Item 1.
  • If you are appearing for the NNAAP® Examination for re-application to add your name to the Registry after your certificate has lapsed (and the expiry period of your registry certificate is more than 2 years), and have completed a new program course, you are required to provide a copy of your expired Registry Certificate and enter your Registry Certificate number in Section 1 of the form.

Renewal of CNA Certification

A ‘Certification Renewal Form’ will be received approximately 60 days before the expiry date of your CNA certificate.

After filling all the sections of the form carefully, mail the completed application along with the required renewal fee of $12 to:

Upon receiving the application and fee, the Pearson VUE will renew your license and will send you a new wallet card and certificate.

You must inform the DC Nursing Assistant Registry of any changes in your address or name.
