CNA classes in Colorado are administered and regulated by the Colorado board of nursing through the Department of Regulatory Agencies. The completion of this program makes you eligible for taking CNA certification exam and its clearance gets you listed under nurse aide registry. Nurse aide programs must be approved by the state and comply with the provisions of 1987’s Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, which mandates the candidate to finish 75 hours of program. However, some institutes in CO offer 80 hours of program.
Every aspirant must meet the following requirements, in order to take admission in the certified nursing assistant course:
The fee of the program depends on the school or institution. In general, it will cost you in between $800 and $1000. An additional amount of $95 is charged for the state certification examination. As per the federal requirements, the duration of the program should be at least 75 hours that includes both clinical, as well as theoretical studies. Free CNA Program is also available for those who genuinely belong to low-income group and need financial assistance to complete their education.
The basic curriculum of the program program includes subjects based on basic nursing care, personal nursing care, adult care, mental care, promotion/respect of patients’ rights and independence, restorative care, emergency care, infection control, communication and interpersonal skills, patient grooming and hygiene, proper administration of medicines, patient mobility, and rights of the patient. During clinical sessions, one learns various skills such as hand washing, wound dressing, shifting the patient from the bed to wheelchair using a transfer belt, prevention of bed sores, etc.
Since there is a long list of schools and colleges that offer certified nurse aide program, it becomes confusing to find the approved one. The Colorado nursing board can help you find an accredited institution from the list maintained by it. Hence, it would be better to take assistance from the state board rather than joining an unauthorized program. Here is a list of approved schools in Colorado.
