The guidelines for formal nurse aide program in Maine are laid down by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Services. Each program program in the state is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services. Approved CNA classes in Maine comprise of 180 hours of rigorous program which include 70 hours of clinical practice, 20 hours of clinical laboratory work, and 90 hours of classroom instructions. A certificate of program is provided to those who satisfactorily complete the nurse aide program and qualify the competence test.

Requirements for Enrolling in CNA Classes in Maine

  • The candidates who wish to apply for program must be 16 years of age.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit, and must qualify the drug test and TB test.
  • Must possess a high school diploma.
  • The aspirant is supposed to provide his/her fingerprints and have a clear criminal background.
  • Key skills required to apply for the nurse aide program are- strong verbal and written communication abilities, patience, and compassion.
  • Photo ID proof, like driving license or state ID card.

You need not undertake the program if:

  • You are a student or graduated nurse, and possess proof of completion of the program.
  • You are transferred or have shifted to Maine from any other US state, and hold the required documents and proof of program.
  • You have completed at least 50 hours of clinical program and 35 hours of classroom program in another state.
  • You are a military nursing assistant and hold proof of program and other requisite documents.

The course fee for CNA Program in Maine may range from $800 to $2000. Besides this, $45 is charged as the examination fees. However, you can cover the cost of your program by availing grants, scholarships, and employer-sponsored programs.

The state requires you to complete 180 hours of program inclusive of laboratory work, clinical practice and classroom studies. It may take 6 – 12 weeks to finish the whole curriculum.

If you desire to work as a nurse aide, it is mandatory to qualify the NNAAP exam within two years of completion of the program. If you fail to do so, you will have to undergo the program again.
