CNA Certification In Michigan

Those aspirants who wish to obtain CNA certification in Michigan have to fulfill certain requirements mandated by the state and federal government. You first need to attend the nurse aide program that is administered by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). After completing the program program, candidates are required to pass the competency exam, which is developed and administered by the Prometric. Eligibility Criteria to Obtain CNA Licensure in Michigan

Applicants are required to fulfill any one of the following, in order to be eligible to take the competency evaluation test:

  • Complete program from a nurse aide program program approved by the state within a period of past 2 years
    OR
  • Provide a copy of an “Exemption from Program” form issued by the LARA.

Procedure to Obtain CNA Licensure in MI

The step-by-step procedure to obtain CNA license in the state of Michigan is:

Renewal of the CNA Licensure

CNAs in Michigan need to renew their license in every 2 years.

Requirements to Renew the Certificate

  • The candidate has worked as a nursing aide performing paid nursing or services related to nursing for not less than 8 consecutive hours under the supervision of a registered nurse within a period of 2 years before the expiration of current registry document.
  • CNAs must not be a part of neglect, resident abuse, or misappropriation of property.
  • Submit the renewal application.
  • Pay the renewal fee of $20 in the form of money order made payable to Prometric. Or else, if you are paying via MasterCard, American Express, or Visa, fill the Credit Card payment page.
  • Request your former or current nurse aide employer to fill the employer information and provide a letter on facility’s/agency’s letterhead verifying employment history.

If you are requesting a name change, then provide a legal document illustrating name change along with the completed application. You may provide the copy of following documents as proof:

  • Driver’s license

For an address change, you will be required to provide the following details:

  • Old Street Address
  • Old City / State / Zip Code
  • New Street Address

If you are requesting a duplicate license, you will be required to pay a fee of $15 by money order, certified check, MasterCard, American Express, or Visa. The mode of payment varies in every state, and the license will be issued only in those states that are linked with Prometric.
